Smash cake sessions have a special place in my heart. There is something so endearing about watching a child explore and push the boundaries while they look around to see if putting their fingers in something sweet and soft is okay. They look over the cake, they look to mom and dad, they look at the cake again, they raise their hand up, pause, put their finger to their mouth, look back to mom and dad... then they make contact. An instant smile goes to their face and they are ready to play. It's such a little moment but its a sweet moment. Really at no other time in our lives are we allowed to play in a cake the same way (well I suppose we could, but we wouldn't be met with the same encouragement). It's a ritual and a rite of passage for so many American families and I feel so blessed to be a part of each one.
Silas is one little man who I photographed as a newborn and it's always unbelievable to see how much they have grown in just a year. They aren't just babies anymore, they become people with personalities and likes and dislikes. It's rather amazing when you think about it.
I always link a bath time session to a smash cake session. It never feels as though the story is complete until everyone and everything is clean again. This bath time is my favorite to date. From his party hat to his rubber ducky, he couldn't have been any more excited to splash in the water and play in the bubbles. I hope you all enjoy this session as much as I did. Leave some love at the bottom of the page for the family!
xoxo
