Destination Grand Lake Lodge Wedding- Justin + Katie's Wedding in Colorado

October 07, 2015  •  9 Comments

I've been incredibly blessed this year to shoot some amazing weddings and a few have been destination couples who have come to share in Colorado for our gorgeous landscapes and mountain towns. Katie and Justin, along with all their friends and family, traveled all the way from Racine, Wisconsin to Grand Lake here in Colorado. This not only includes a long flight but a two and a half hour drive. The Grand Lake Lodge is nestled in the Southwest portion of Rocky Mountain National Park and this national landmark is not only known for its gorgeous views, but its phenomenal preservation of wildlife. A day prior to Katie and Justin's wedding, there was a local moose just hanging out at their ceremony site. They are abundant in Grand Lake and are quite impressive, even to natives. (I know because I am one!)

The morning of their wedding was gorgeous, full blue skies dappled with bright white clouds. As the afternoon rolled in, a few storm clouds came over the mountain peaks and sprinkled rain for a few moments prior to the ceremony. The sun didn't really come out again after that but the day was so full of amazing moments that it really didn't matter. The aisle to their ceremony site is gorgeously long, which is perfect because it's a moment you should truly cherish as a bride. Sometimes during a ceremony there is a moment, that evokes so much emotion, everyone is changed for having heard the words spoken. For me, as a photographer, it was the moment Justin read his vows to Alyssa, their daughter. They were heartfelt and funny, but unmistakably real and tender. As I tried to choke back my own tears, I turned my camera to the guests and found I was not alone... there was not a single dry eye there. It gives me goosebumps to think about that moment. The honor of hearing those words in all sincerity is exactly why I love weddings, why I crave telling the story for someone else's future generations. Hearing genuine laughter and seeing priceless expressions in those around me makes me full and I only hope you can see some of that truth when you look at their album. Thank you Katie, Justin, Alyssa, and your friends and family for including me in your wedding vision. It was a true honor to work with you. Enjoy!

I also have to give out one final shout out to my second shooter, Dominique. Not only is she one of my favorite people to work with, she is amazing at what she does! Please go to her website, www.fallchildphotography.info to see more of her work. You won't regret it, she's fabulous!
